Why do Asian Americans seemed apathetic and indifferent to what’s going on in our government and society?

They refuse to participate in the healthy and often intense discussions of subject matters which affect them as well as all other Americans. They just don’t care. With great percentage of the voting population comprising Asians, they could have an enfluence on the outcome of the election. All they seemd to care about is as long as there is food on their table, jobs and a place to sleep, they are completely ambivalent on what is going on in this country. Yet they are ready to reap the benefits resulting from those who openly and pro-actively participated in civic activities designed to improve the lives of people in this country. But that’s OK because soon all health facilities, doctors and dentists, liquor stores, gas stations, cab companies and parking lots are all going to be owned and operated by Asians. And by the way, the casinos thank them.

First off Asians in America only make up less than 2 percent of the population. So we don’t have much of an influence as you wanted it to be.

Secondly, Asians can’t win can we? If we keep our traditions we’re considered foreigners. If we lose our traditions we’re considered sell outs to our race. Either way, Americans complain about us, period. You question is a prime example of this.

Thirdly, first gen. Asian americans are too busy trying to make a fortune for ourselves. We don’t have trust funds, inheritence, or just one job lik most of you Americans have. So we don’t have free time. We have to try to take care of our families/extended families back in the motherland if you will. We didn’t close our ties with the old country.

Last, please don’t generalize. I’m Asian and I vote any chance I get.
